The leadership of the National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) has decried what it termed as “unfair” treatment they received from a committee put together by the members of the House of Representatives from Bauchi state to ascertain issues surrounding the leadership tussle in NUBASS.
President of the union, Musa Muhammad Jibrin, said the leadership had converged at the venue of the public hearing as an interested party but were asked to leave because they were not invited for the hearing even while they had earlier sent a letter to the office of the speaker of the House of Representatives clarifying that he was the authentic leader of the union.
Recall that NUBASS has been bedeviled by leadership crisis after the 2016 election which threw up the Musa Muhammad Jibrin led government while Nasiru Nuhu Cigari also lays claim to the union’s presidency.
Jibrin said, “ we were at the venue of the public hearing that involved the name of the union of which am the authentic president going by the election held in 2016 under Umar Adamu Jibrin led
Independent National Electoral Committee for the NUBASS National Convention.
“When we wanted to express our reservations since the persons there under the auspices of our union were not the duly elected, we were asked to leave since we were neither invited nor did we submit any memoranda for consideration. This is unfair”.
When contacted, Nasiru Nuhu Cigari, who also alleges that he is the president said via telephone that he was the authentic president of the association and that any other person claiming such position was an impostor.
Recall that NUBASS had recently expressed displeasure over the continued interference with its activities by politicians from Bauchi State, threatening legal action.
