Fresh Southern Kaduna Killings: Death Toll Rises To 26, Gets Mass Burial

The deaths toll arising from the Sunday’s to Monday attacks on four communities in Kaura and Jema’a Local Government Areas of Kaduna State has risen to 26.

LEADERSHIP findings also revealed that 10 of deceased persons from were given mass burial in Ashim village of Kaura local government area by the Rev. Fr. Jona Steven of the Catholic Church.

The fresh attacks was alleged to have been carried out by armed herdsmen amidst security presence deployed by the federal government.

Our correspondent gathered that thousands of people whose homes and foodstuffs were burnt down by the armed men, are  now displaced.

According to the interim Chairman of Kaura local government area, Mr. Alex Iya, the dead casualties increase from 14 to 19 as at yesterday morning.

He said, 10 persons were killed in Ashim’s village, 5 persons killed in Zilang, and 4 people also killed Nissi village, all in Atakad  District under his local government.

According to the council Chairman, over 80% homes in Ashim village were either destroyed or completely burnt down by the armed herdsmen, while the house including barns of foodstuffs in Nissi village were completely razed down leaving the surviving villages with nothing.

Meanwhile, the Interim Chairman of Jema’a local government area, Dr. Bege Katuka whose area came under attacked on Sunday, has advised people to stop the spread of the crisis through spreading rumours.

He appealed for calm as government was doing everything within is powers to restore nomalcy in the trouble communities.

Also, Kaduna State Police Commissioner, Mr. Agyole Abeh, yesterday confirmed that he lost two of his men in Sunday evening’s attack on Bakin Kogo village, in Jema’a LGA, saying he had relocated to Kafanchan to coordinate the police in ensuring peace and security in the troubled area.

Meanwhile, the Southern Kaduna peoples Union, SOKAPU through it President, Barr. Solomon Musa has faulted the 24 hours curfew imposed over the two LGAs, saying that innocent natives have suffered both death and hunger than peace and security under such total curfew in the past.
