Lawyer Sues Newspaper Houses For Defamation, Seeks N1bn

An Abuja base legal practitioner Barrister Natasha Akpoti has dragged some newspaper houses before a Federal Capital Territory High Court for publishing libelous information maligning her character before the public.

Akpoti who has named the Authority newspaper, Daily post and an online publisher, the Whistler Communication as co-defendants in the suit has equally asked the court to make an order for the Authority Newspaper to pay her the sum of N500 million damages.

She also asked the court to make an order for the Daily post and an online publisher, the Whistler Communication to jointly pay her the sum of N500 million as damage.

In the affidavit deposed to by herself, Apoti said “I vehemently denies being sponsored by the vasuwani brothers or any individual or organization, because I am a  believer of President Buhari’s vision for Nigeria especially the anti-corruption battle.

Samuel Ogala who filed the suit on her behalf  said that the content of the publication is false and libelous against her person and has damaged the hard earned reputation of the and has resulted in tremendous negative implications towards her family and businesses for she is now being viewed as a dubious person of low integrity and moral standard who shouldn’t be trusted by all and sundry.
