Former Vice President, Dr. Alex Ekwueme yesterday attributed the
failure of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2015 presidential election to lack of internal democracy within the party.
Ekwueme, who spoke while receiving members of the Strategy Review Committee of the PDP who visited him to present a copy of the final report of the committee, maintained that it was lack of internal democracy that caused the party’s downfall in the last general election.
He advised members of the committee to reconcile with aggrieved members of the party especially those who left for other political parties in order to find lasting solution to the party’s problems.
Ekwueme, one of the founding fathers of the party, expressed sadness that the party opened its doors to some people who did not know how it was formed to hijack it.
Speaking shortly before presenting the report of the committee to
Ekwueme, the leader of the delegation, Alhaji Aminu Wali noted that that there were impunities that made them to lose to the All Progressives Congress{APC}.
He disclosed that his committee was saddled with the responsibilityof reviewing all aspects of the party to determine areas where changes needed to be done.
Aminu, who addressed journalists at the end of the committee’s meeting with the former vice president, expressed optimism that the party would re-brand to go back to the vision of the founding fathers of the party, saying that the party belongs to all Nigerians.
He further averred that the PDP was already a mega party, whose presence is noticeable in every ward and village in Nigeria, pointing out that people of Nigeria were already yearning for the party.
Also speaking, a member of the delegation and founder of DAARCommunication, High Chief Raymond Dokpesi, said that PDP was meant for everybody.
He apologized to Nigerians on the areas they failed to meet their
expectations, declaring that PDP was now a born again party poised to win the 2019 general election.
He explained that PDP is one solid party, insisting that there is “ no
faction in PDP.”
