The Bayelsa State government, yesterday, asked the National Security Adviser (NSA) and the heads of the nation’s security agencies not to treat the mysterious death of Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli, in his official residence at Apapa in Lagos on the 5th of April 2017 lightly.
According to the Bayelsa government though the report on the untimely death of Rear Admiral Daniel Ikoli was received with regret and disbelief, they appealed to the agencies of government not to treat the matter with levity based on the circumstances surrounding the death of late Admiral IkoliIn .
A condolence message on behalf of the government, the commissioner for information and orientation, Hon. Jonathan Obuebite described the news of Ikoli’s death as most shocking and painful, considering his enviable track record of service in the Navy.
While condoling with the immediate family, the Peremabiri Community, the Chief of Defence staff, the Chief of Naval Staff and the Nigerian Navy, the Bayelsa State Government called on the leadership of the Nigerian Military and the office of the National Security Adviser to unravel the mystery surrounding his death through proper investigation.
According to the statement, a thorough investigation to ascertain the real cause of Admiral Ikoli’s death would go a long way in addressing reports already making the rounds in certain quarters that, he was murdered because of his stance on corruption and his role in the ongoing arms procurement probe committee, which he served.
