Meningitis: Gov Yari Decries Poor Drug Administration In Zamfara

As the scourge of Cerebro Spinal Meningitis continues to claim lives in Zamfara State, Governor Abdulaziz Yari has decried the poor hygiene condition of treatment centres and poor administration of drugs in the  state.

Governor Yari ,who inspected some of the treatment centres in company of the federal health officers expressed  disappointment with the committee he earlier constituted to handle the situation.

He specifically noted that “I am disappointed to have first-hand information from the patients that they buy drugs while on admission.”

He observed  that even the hygiene condition of some of the centers were far below standard, adding that “this is against the directive I gave the committee to ensure standard hygienic environment of all treatment centers across the state”.

Governor Yari lamented   the inadequate provision of mattresses, a situation which compelled patients to sleep  on bare sands, stressing that “this is despite the adequate provision of funds given to the committee to ensure avoiding any problem that can result into a hitch.”

He disclosed  that the federal government did its best in providing 300, 000 units of vaccines out of the only 800,000 units that were available in the whole country at the time the outbreak begun  “I will not close eyes to allow anybody found involved in the drug mismanagement to go scotfree”, anybody found guilty will surely be brought to book,he warned.

Meanwhile, the minister of health, Isaac F. Adewole has paid an official visit to the state in connection with efforts to curtail further spread of the disease in the state.
