Adebayo Takes Over As New Executive Director Of NFVCB, To Produce Blueprint In 90 Days

The newly-appointed executive director of the National Film and Video Censors Board (NFVCB), Mr Adedayo Thomas, has promised to produce a blueprint for actions in the sector in 90 days.

Addressing the press during the taking over ceremony on Friday in Abuja, Adedayo, who is also a Theatre Arts graduate with competencies in development policy and advocacy said his agenda is to reform the system as part of the presidential reform agenda will be achieve through the film censor board.

“I am just coming on board and I know there a lots of issues bordering on finances, censorship, foreign interventions of our culture and society. I hope to work with other team to ensure that things are done in a better formats. The challenges of the film industry is not only the challenges of that line, we have challenges in different aspect of the work, so we hope to collaborate with private sector, real stakeholders and others who feels the country must move forward to define a blueprint toward what would wish to achieve at the end of the day. Hopefully, you should expect me with the blueprint of actions latest in 90 days,” he assured.

He said “My agenda is to reform the system and this will come out of part of the presidential reform agenda will be brought out of the Film Censors board. How do we reform? We need to meet the modern terms of development. And the modern term of development will not impeach things on the people but would generate wealth and ideals for individuals, so that we can have lesser dependence on government. It would open up the markets for films and videos.

“We would monitor it, mind you, regulation is not all about killing industries or killing businesses, it is about looking into what conforms with the society norms and ideals and move forward to generate revenue, great entertainment industries project the better image of country and entire continent, then we all move, that means we are in the ray of the plans of the president.”

He also promised that funding should not be a constraint to the Board’s operations during his tenure as it is ideas that generate wealth. He said that while he has not come with all the solutions to the Board’s challenges, together with the management team, solutions will be forged.

Earlier in her remarks, the out-going Executive director, Ms Patricia Bala, lamented the many challenges that bedeviled her tenure.

She also listed her achievements and urged all concerned to support her successor in the task ahead.

The Board’s management team led by the Director of Film Censorship and Classification, Mrs Fatyma Sa’adu, was on hand to welcome the Mr Adedayo Thomas to the leadership of the Board equipped.
