It is not yet Uhuru for Wikki Tourists head coach Baba Ganaru, despite picking an important home win against visitors Enyimba of Aba in the Matchday 16 Nigeria Professional Football League encounter decided at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa Stadium, Bauchi, on Wednesday.
Ganaru, who joined the Tourists this season, believes only an away win will give him the kind of satisfaction he desires, describing the game against the Elephants of Aba as good and added that “I need to pick an away win to feel real good.”
“It was a really good match for us. The boys really did their best to win the game and they maintained character, despite the stiff opposition from Enyimba.
“At Wikki every match is important and l don’t consider that I am doing very well yet at Wikki until l win my first away game with the club. I will take every match as it comes and apart from winning this game l have noticed areas that needs improvement.
“We are facing Plateau United away which is a big game and my utmost desire now with Wikki is to pick an away three points. I tell you this, it is my main focus for now because since l joined Wikki Tourists we are yet to win an away game.”Ganaru told npfl.ng.
He said five months into the job with Wikki with a couple of fresh legs, the boys will have to adjust and understand his philosophy. “I am five months on this job with Wikki and l know it will take some time for the boys to adjust to my philosophy.”
The former Kano Pillars boss said waiting till the 85th minute to break Enyimba through Victor Alegbe’s converted corner was not part of his game plan because the long wait resulted to unnecessary anxiety. “Our plan was to score early so as to give our players confidence to attack more but Enyimba held on until the 85th minute goal.”
Match winner, Alegbe, said had always sought to score against a big team and his dream has come through netting an important match winner against Enyimba.
“I joined the club from Rivers United this season and this is my first goal for Wikki. I have been hoping and praying that l score a very important goal for the club, l am happy that my dream came through today against a big club like Enyimba.”
