The promotion of over 1200 secondary school teachers in Katsina State as directed by Governor Aminu Bello Masari has ended their 15 year wait for the incentive, the acting chairman of the State Teachers Board, Alhaji Sada Abubakar Machika, said yesterday.

Out of the benefitting teachers, many are on grade levels thirteen and above while others are on grade levels six to twelve.

Machika, who disclosed this while briefing newsmen on the activities of the board, also applauded Governor Aminu Bello Masari over the on-going process of recruiting about 2000 teachers for primary and secondary schools across the state.

He indicated that teachers that were engaged under the previous administration as casual staff for years would be giving priority attention in the recruitment exercise in view of their sacrifice and dedication in the service of the people and government of the state.

According to him, the teachers’ promotion and recruitment were in fulfillment of part of the campaign promises of Governor Masari towards improving the standard of education and well being of teachers in the state.

Machila also noted that the administration had made a significant mark in the rehabilitation and construction of schools and classrooms and prompt payment of teachers’ salaries and entitlements despite the dwindling revenue of all tiers of government nationwide.

He further explained that emphasis would be qualifications, teaching skills and science related subjects in the recruitment of teachers
